Description:
Annie is an upcoming 2014 musical-drama film directed by Will Gluck and produced by rapper Jay-Z and Will Smith. It stars Quvenzhane Wallis in the title role and Jamie Foxx in the role of Benjamin Stacks. It is based on Annie by Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin and is also a contemporary adaptation of the musical of the same name, which in turn is based upon the 1924 comic strip Little Orphan Annie by Harold Gray. The film would be ready for release by December 19, 2014.
Plot:
"Annie is the adaptation of the Broadway musical which was based upon the Harold Gray comic strip "Little Orphan Annie." The movie tells the story of a little girl and her dog Sandy who are placed in the lap of luxury for a week as a part of a publicity campaign for Oliver Warbucks who is a wealthy politician."
More info:
Jay-Z will "re-imagine" the music, much as he did when he re-fashioned the Broadway show's "Hard Knock Life" into an anthem of urban poverty.
Based on the stage musical Annie, with the book by Thomas Meehan, music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Martin Charnin -- which in turn was based on the comic strip Little Orphan Annie.
Jamie Foxx will play a character named Benjamin Stacks, a variation of Daddy Warbucks, who takes in the orphan girl being played by Quvenzhane Wallis.
It was originally planned for Will & Jada Pinkett Smith’s daughter, Willow Smith, to take on the role of Annie. It was her decision to not pursue the role in order to focus on being a pre-teen (seriously); the role then went to Quvenzhané Wallis, who captivated audiences around the world with the Academy Award-nominated film, Beasts of the Southern Wild. Wallis may not be the household name, but being in a remake of a classic Broadway play will certainly change that.
