The Equalizer is an upcoming 2014 Action/Crime/Thriller film directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by Richard Wenk. The film is based on the television series of same name. The film stars Denzel Washington, Chloe Grace Moretz, Marton Csokas, Melissa Leo and Haley Bennett. It is slated to release on 26th Sep, 2014.

In June 2010 it was announced that Russell Crowe was looking to bring The Equalizer to the big screen, with Crowe himself attached to play Robert McCall. But later on in december 2011, it was reported that Denzel Washington is set to star in the title role of the film version, to be financed by Sony Pictures Entertainment and Escape Artists

Plot:

The Equalizer was a popular TV series from the 1980s about a former secret agent using his skills to help those who needed protection or investigative services. Well, here is a movie adaptation of "The Equalizer". Producers Mace Neufeld (Hunt for Red October), Alex Siskin (Big Daddy) and Escape Artists (The Taking of Pelham 123) intend indeed to bring the Equalizer to the big screen.

"A retired intelligence officer Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) turns into a vigilante for the helpless. Now he's making amend by using his skills to right wrongs for the persecuted by settling scores with their persecutors. When he decides to help a young hooker Teri (Chloe Grace Moretz), he gets heat from the Russian mafia, and in particular a brutal fixer (Marton Csokas)."
